Pacers Rout Heat 128-115 as Jimmy Butler Requests Trade

On a night meant to celebrate the Miami Heat’s 25th anniversary at Kaseya Center, the Indiana Pacers spoiled the festivities with a commanding 128-115 victory. Tyrese Haliburton was the star of the night, delivering a masterclass with 33 points and 15 assists, while Myles Turner added 21 points to help Indiana improve to 17-18 on the season.

The Heat (17-15) fell behind early and never recovered. Rookie Kel’el Ware led Miami with a career-high 25 points, supported by Bam Adebayo’s 20 points and Tyler Herro’s 17. However, the Heat struggled defensively, allowing Indiana to shoot 53% from the field and 44.1% from three-point range. The Pacers outscored Miami 23-9 in points off turnovers and 51-33 from beyond the arc, putting the game out of reach by the third quarter.

While the loss dropped the Heat further down the Eastern Conference standings, the bigger story of the night came from Jimmy Butler. Butler, who managed just nine points in 28 minutes and sat out the fourth quarter for the second consecutive game, made headlines after the game by requesting a trade.

Jimmy Butler Speaks Out
In his postgame press conference, Butler didn’t hold back about his frustration in Miami.

“What do I want to see happen? I want to see me get my joy back from playing basketball. And wherever that may be, we’ll find out here pretty soon. I want to get my joy back. I’m happy here, off the court. But I want to be back to somewhat dominant, I want to hoop, and I want to help this team win. Right now, I’m not doing that,” Butler said.

When asked if he could find that joy again in Miami, Butler’s response was direct: “Probably not.”

The bombshell statement marked the first time Butler publicly voiced his desire to leave Miami. ESPN’s Shams Charania and Brian Windhorst later reported that Butler informed the Heat of his trade request after the game.

According to Charania and Windhorst, Butler’s relationship with Heat President Pat Riley has been strained since last May. Following Miami’s first-round playoff exit against the Boston Celtics, Butler reportedly expressed that the Heat wouldn’t have lost had he been healthy. Riley responded bluntly at his end-of-season press conference: “If you’re not on the court playing against Boston, or on the court playing against the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut.”

The tension has only escalated this season, with Butler reportedly feeling the Heat have failed to surround him with the necessary talent to contend.

With Butler’s trade request now public, the Heat face a crucial moment. Butler’s belief, as reported by Charania, is that he can make any team a contender. The Heat must now weigh the future of their franchise and whether it includes the six-time All-Star especially after Pat Riley publicly stated last week that Butler wasnot going anywhere.

For the Heat the focus shifts to their next game as they look to rebound from this latest blow, both on and off the court. But with Butler’s future hanging in the balance, the Heat’s season has taken an unexpected and turbulent turn.
