Marlins Rally in Ninth to Stun Red Sox and Avoid Sweep

The Miami Marlins flipped the script late on Sunday afternoon, storming back in the ninth inning to edge the Boston Red Sox 5-3 at Fenway Park and snap their three-game losing streak.
Down 3-2 entering the final frame, Dane Myers set the tone by launching a leadoff homer against Greg Weissert to even the score. A few batters later, rookie Jakob Marsee delivered the decisive blow, hammering a two-run shot off Steven Matz to give Miami its first lead since the early innings.
Boston threatened in the bottom of the ninth, putting two runners aboard with two outs, but Anthony Bender induced a flyout from Carlos Narvaez to lock down his fourth save of the season. Tyler Phillips earned the win after working a scoreless eighth inning.
Miami’s offense also got a boost from Eric Wagaman, who opened the scoring with a solo homer.
The Red Sox were powered by Wilyer Abreu, who smashed his 22nd home run of the year—a two-run blast in the fourth that slipped out of Myers’ glove in right field and into the bullpen. Abreu added another hit and a run scored before exiting in the seventh with a leg injury after crossing the plate on Abraham Toro’s sacrifice fly.
Boston starter Garrett Crochet was sharp, striking out eight while allowing just one run on three hits through seven innings. His counterpart, Janson Junk, matched him inning for inning, going seven strong and tying his career-high with six strikeouts while yielding three runs on six hits.
The Red Sox, who had taken the first two games of the series with 2-1 and 7-5 wins, looked poised for a sweep when Toro’s sacrifice fly stretched their lead to 3-1 in the seventh. Miami clawed back in the eighth when Xavier Edwards scored on a clutch two-out single from Hicks, setting the stage for the dramatic ninth-inning turnaround.
With the victory, the Marlins avoided a sweep at the hands of Boston and carried momentum into the upcoming week.
