Lionel Messi’s brilliance continues to shine on American soil, as Major League Soccer named the Inter Miami superstar its Player of the Month for July 2025. It’s a well-deserved honor for the Argentine, whose remarkable performances helped fuel Miami’s charge back into the Supporters’ Shield race.

Over the course of five league matches in July, Messi delivered eight goals and three assists, including four multi-goal outings. His impact was undeniable, propelling the Herons to four wins in those five matches. The only setback came in the final match of the month—a 0-0 draw against CF Cincinnati, a contest Messi missed due to suspension.

Even with that absence, Messi’s numbers stood alone. His current form includes six braces in his last seven league matches, an extraordinary feat that has lifted him to 18 goals and nine assists on the year—putting him ahead of Nashville’s Sam Surridge in the Golden Boot race thanks to the assist tiebreaker.

This latest accolade marks Messi’s fourth Player of the Month recognition since arriving in MLS in 2023, placing him among the league’s all-time greats in that category. Only a few names—Wondolowski, Donovan, Martínez, Ruiz, and Acosta—have earned the honor more often.

The award also comes amid controversy. Messi was recently fined for skipping the MLS All-Star Game, but his on-field dominance has silenced critics and reminded fans of his irreplaceable value to the league.

Now, with Leagues Cup 2025 on the horizon, Messi’s momentum shows no signs of slowing. He’ll lead Inter Miami into the tournament with their eyes set on a third title in as many years, beginning against Atlas in front of a home crowd.
