Miami Hurricanes’ QB Tyler Van Dyke has received a trademark for the ‘Tyler Van Dime’ nickname made popular by UM fans on twitter. Van Dyke first got the nickname from Miami fans while still in high school after he committed to the Canes. The play on words for the laser accurate QB quickly caught on during his impressive freshman season, leading to a flood of memes and graphics related to the nickname.
The trademark was officially registered on September 5th by attorney Darren Heitner. Heitner has been involved in many NIL headlines, both good and bad, with University of Miami and University of Florida athletes. Van Dyke is represented by Rosenhaus sports who helped in the trademarking process. The trademark is registered as a Class 25, which allows for use on things like clothing and accessories.
Canes’ fans will be hoping to see many ‘dimes’ from Tyler Van Dyke over the next few months as a merchandise line seems to be on the horizon.
