Former Miami Hurricanes’ WR Jeff Thomas has had his rights for 2024 claimed by the St. Louis Battlehawks. Thomas is a native of St. Louis and went to East St. Louis Highschool where he was a top ranked recruit prior to attending the University of Miami.
Thomas showed flashes of his explosiveness and playmaking ability at wide receiver and on special teams for the Canes. In his three seasons at Miami, Thomas racked up 83 catches for 1,316 yards and 8 touchdowns, but was limited by injuries and off field issues throughout his college career. Thomas was signed by the Patriots coming out of college and made it to the last round of cuts during an unusual offseason camp amidst Covid.
After being cut by the Patriots, Thomas was drafted in the inaugural USFL Draft. Thomas made a couple highlight reel catches early on in his time with the Pittsburgh Maulers, but again faced some injuries that hampered his time there. Thomas was released in March of 2023 and has taken the last few months to get healthy and refocused.
The former standout prospect at East St. Louis is primed to return home and have a breakout year for the Battlehawks. If Thomas can stay healthy, he very well could follow in the footsteps of four other former Battlehawks’ players that earned NFL contracts this year. Thomas was a local legend for his performances at the youth and high school level and will have many supporters around him as he takes the next step in his journey.
