The Miami Dolphins put together a commanding performance on Sunday, dismantling the New England Patriots 34-15 at Hard Rock Stadium. Behind Tua Tagovailoa’s precision passing and a stifling defensive effort, Miami improved to 5-6 on the season and stretched their winning streak to three games. The victory kept the Dolphins’ playoff hopes alive while exposing the Patriots’ ongoing struggles.
Tua Tagovailoa led the charge, completing 29 of 40 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns. The Miami quarterback showcased his trademark accuracy and poise, carving up the Patriots’ defense and extending his unbeaten streak to 7-0 against New England as a starter.
“He just brings that swag, that confidence,” said receiver Jaylen Waddle, who hauled in eight passes for 144 yards and a touchdown. Waddle was one of several Dolphins to have a standout performance, as Jonnu Smith (87 yards, one touchdown) and De’Von Achane (two receiving touchdowns) also shined in Miami’s dynamic offensive attack.
The Dolphins broke the game wide open in the second quarter, scoring 24 unanswered points. Tagovailoa threw three touchdown passes during the quarter—two to Achane and one to Smith—while the Dolphins defense suffocated New England. Miami’s offensive dominance, paired with a suffocating defense, left the Patriots reeling before halftime.
Jason Sanders capped the first half with a 21-yard field goal, giving the Dolphins a commanding 24-0 lead at the break.
Miami’s defense was relentless, holding New England to just seven points until the fourth quarter. The Patriots struggled to find a rhythm, as rookie quarterback Drake Maye faced constant pressure. Maye was sacked four times and hit eight times, with Jalen Ramsey’s corner blitzes proving particularly disruptive.
The defense also forced two critical turnovers, including a fumble recovery that set up a Tagovailoa touchdown pass to Waddle late in the third quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach.
For New England, it was another disappointing outing in what has become a challenging season. The Patriots were plagued by undisciplined play, committing 10 penalties, including four infractions by tackle Vederian Lowe. Maye finished the game with 222 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception, but much of his production came in garbage time.
Austin Hooper provided a rare highlight for the Patriots with a 38-yard touchdown catch on a fourth-and-15 play in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.
Miami’s first touchdown early in the second quarter flipped the momentum entirely. After Tagovailoa connected with Smith for a 7-yard score, the Dolphins’ defense forced a quick three-and-out. Miami responded with another touchdown drive, beginning a scoring barrage that New England could not answer.
Waddle’s 23-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter, set up by a Maye fumble, exemplified Miami’s dominance. Waddle’s score extended the Dolphins’ lead to 31-7 and put the game out of reach.
The Dolphins will aim to keep their momentum going as they travel to Lambeau Field for a Thanksgiving night clash with the Green Bay Packers. With their offense firing on all cylinders and the defense playing with newfound intensity, Miami looks ready to make a strong push in the latter half of the season.
