The Miami Hurricanes Baseball team were down to their final out but they still held faith and believed they could eventually pull off the victory, and they did just that.

Junior Zach Levenson delivered the biggest swing of his collegiate career and the Hurricanes dugout would clear and rush towards Levenson and embrace him in celebration.

Tuesday’s dramatic finish was the Hurricanes’ 11th comeback win of the 2023 season, in addition to their third walk-off victory of the year. I guess you could dub this team the ‘Cardiac Canes’, considering the amount of come-from-behind victories they’ve had through 25 games.

Levenson would deliver a walk-off three-run homer and the 23rd-ranked Miami Hurricanes would walk away with a 6-5 victory over the FIU Panthers on Tuesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

“It was one of the greatest baseball moments I’ve ever been a part of. I’ve never had a walk-off home run in my life. That was probably the coolest thing ever. Going into that at-bat, there was only one thing on my mind. I knew it was gone the second I hit it,” Levenson said.

But Levenson’s roommate, LifeWallet athlete CJ Kayfus, said that it would happen even before Levenson had stepped up to home plate for his final attempt at bat.

“I called it,” Kayfus said. “I don’t know what’s going on, but anytime [Jason Torres] is in the bathroom, Zach ends up hitting a clutch home run. Jason was standing next to me and I told him, ‘Get in the bathroom.’ Next thing I know, Zach hit a walk-off homer and I’m running to the bathroom to get Jason.”

That home run would almost not happen in the bottom of the ninth inning. FIU closer Cameron Knox would make quick work of the first two Miami batters, with a strikeout and a flyout.

Sophomore Edgardo Villegas would fix Knox for a walk to first and then LifeWallet athlete, Yohandy Morales, would drive a single into center field to set up the grand moment for Levenson.

Miami’s magic had began earlier in the night and it was quite the rollercoaster of lead changes throughout the matchup with the visiting Panthers.

FIU’s 1-0 lead in the third inning would falter after Levenson would even the score with an RBI single. Kayfus would tie up the game once again at three a piece, with a two-run jack in the bottom of the seventh inning.

LifeWallet Athlete and right-handed pitcher, Andrew Walters, would also notch his second victory of the season in relief.

“Thank god there’s no clock in our sport, our guys fought all the way to the end and found a way to get the win. It’s unbelievable. Baseball is just a crazy, crazy game,” said Miami head coach Gino DiMare.

Miami now gears up for their biggest rivalry this weekend in a series with the Florida State Seminoles, as they make their trek down from Tallahassee to Coral Gables. The action will begin this Friday at 7:00 P.M. EST at Mark Light Field and the game will broadcast on the ESPN+ app.
