The Miami Hurricanes’ Fall camp is in full swing, and after the second practice, key players shared their thoughts on their roles and the team’s progress. Defensive end Jahfari Harvey, wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, safety James Williams, and wide receiver Colbie Young addressed the media, giving valuable insights into their experiences and expectations for the upcoming season.
DEFENSIVE END – JAHFARI HARVEY
Jahfari Harvey is all smiles about his new role in the Lance Guidry defense. As a JACK player, he’s eager to rush the passer from a two-point stance and showcase his versatility by occasionally dropping back into coverage. Harvey is enthusiastic about the freedom this role gives him to move around and make an impact in the backfield. Alongside other talented pass rushers like Nyjalik Kelly, Cyrus Moss, and Jayden Wayne, Harvey is determined to bring strength and depth to the team’s defense.
WIDE RECEIVER – XAVIER RESTREPO
Xavier Restrepo can’t contain his excitement about the new offensive system led by Coach Shannon Dawson. He’s amazed at the numerous opportunities the offense provides for wide receivers, and he and his teammates are fully prepared to seize every chance to make big plays. Restrepo has been studying the tape of Nathaniel ‘Tank’ Dell, a talented slot receiver under Coach Dawson’s coordination at Houston, now NFL turned play with the Houston Texans, to further refine his skills. With wide receivers coach Kevin Beard’s patient and devoted guidance, Restrepo feels ready to elevate his game to the next level. Moreover, he can’t help but marvel at the speed of transfer wide receiver Tyler Harrell.
SAFETY – JAMES WILLIAMS
James Williams is fired up about his expanded role in the Lance Guidry defense. While he’ll primarily play safety, he’ll also step closer to the line of scrimmage in specific offensive situations. Williams always knew this day would come, and he’s fully embraced it, understanding the significance of his contribution to the team’s success. He’s more than willing to take on any challenge Coach Guidry presents, showcasing his incredible versatility and passion for the game. After recovering from a shoulder procedure during the Spring, Williams feels incredibly fit and explosive, ready to make a big impact on the field in 2023.
WIDE RECEIVER – COLBIE YOUNG
Colbie Young put in tremendous effort during the summer to build strong chemistry with quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. Their seamless understanding on the field is crucial to the team’s success, and Young is determined to be on the same page with his quarterback at all times. Meanwhile, freshman wide receiver Nathaniel ‘Ray Ray’ Joseph has left a lasting impression on Young and his teammates. Joseph’s exceptional speed and explosiveness have made him stand out during the first two days of camp, moving up to the second-team offense, while leaving everyone eager to see more from this young talent.
As the Miami Hurricanes continue their intense preparations, excitement builds for the upcoming season. The team is set to return to the Greentree Practice Fields on Friday morning in Coral Gables, Florida.
