The University of Miami men’s basketball team showcased their dominance in a thrilling victory against Parisian Select, triumphing 97-74 at Espace Edmond Delfour in Viry-Châtillon, France on Friday afternoon.
From the outset, the Hurricanes held control, establishing a commanding 21-point lead in the opening quarter. Junior guard Wooga Poplar stood out, leading Miami with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and a flawless 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
Head coach Jim Larrañaga expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, especially with some of the talented newcomers making significant contributions.
The Hurricanes displayed their firepower, with junior forward Norchad Omier and sophomore forward AJ Casey combining for 20 points in the first quarter alone. By halftime, Miami had built an impressive 24-point lead, leading 55-31.
Poplar’s brilliance continued into the second half, with key contributions from junior guard Matthew Cleveland and junior guard Bensley Joseph, who made a remarkable four steals in the third quarter. Miami extended their advantage to a staggering 33 points, leading 83-50.
Even with limited playing time for individual players, four Hurricanes reached double figures in scoring. Omier recorded his trademark double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Casey added 15 points and seven rebounds.
The team demonstrated astounding shooting marks, connecting on 42.9 percent of three-pointers and 82.8 percent from the free-throw line. Miami’s exceptional teamwork was evident with 21 assists on 32 made field goals and 13 steals.
Miami’s cohesive performance and brilliant individual contributions bode well for their future matchups in France.
