St. Frances Academy QB Michael Van Buren has committed to the Oregon Ducks after naming a top three of Oregon, Penn State and Maryland. Van Buren is one of the top prospects in the country, ranked as high as the number two quarterback by ESPN and the number six quarterback by Rivals. Oregon adds Van Buren to a top 10, 2024 class that includes another St. Frances product in four star cornerback Ify Obidegwu. Dan Lanning and the Ducks made Van Buren a priority from the start and thoroughly impressed him during his visits to Eugene.
The 6’0-185lb signal caller out of Maryland has one of the most talented arms in the nation. Van Buren throws an extremely impressive deep ball and has the arm strength to make every throw. His strong arm and timing allow him to fit passes into tight windows anywhere on the field.
In addition to his ability to move the ball through the air, Van Buren is mobile enough to make plays with his legs as well. Van Buren does a great job maneuvering in the pocket and keeping his eyes downfield to make things happen when plays breakdown.
After leading St. Frances Academy to a 9-1 season and top 10 ranking nationally, Van Buren has been tearing up the 7v7 circuit. Van Buren is playing with Raw Miami during the offseason and has led them to an incredible season including a championship in the Battle New Orleans tournament in his last appearance. Van Buren and Alabama commit Julian Sayin will be in Los Angeles with Raw Miami for the OT7 championship in June.
Once the high school season kicks off again in August, the St Frances QB will have an opportunity to showcase his skills against arguably the toughest schedule in the country. St. Frances Academy gets started with a game against Buford before heading down to South Florida to take on Chaminade-Madonna. The Panthers also play nationally ranked St John Bosco, Mater Dei and IMG Academy. This schedule will provide a big test as Van Buren gets ready to head to Oregon and play for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.
