USA basketball capped off their Olympic exhibition series with a 92-88 victory over Germany on Monday, behind another clutch performance from Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. The win marks the end of a perfect 5-0 exhibition run, setting the stage for an Olympic run where Team USA is the heavy favorite to win gold for the fifth consecutive time.

James delivered a masterclass in the closing minutes, scoring Team USA’s last 11 points to overturn a late-game deficit. His relentless effort secured the win and demonstrated why he remains a pivotal player, even at 39. LeBron finished with a team-high 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal.

Despite trailing by nine at halftime, Germany mounted an impressive third-quarter comeback, taking a 71-68 lead into the final quarter. They maintained their momentum, holding an 82-80 advantage with just under five minutes remaining. It was then that James took over, single-handedly swinging the game in Team USA’s favor.

Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner led Germany with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while his brother Moritz Wagner added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Their efforts, however, were not enough to stifle the late surge from James.

In addition to James’ heroics, Team USA saw significant contributions from Joel Embiid (15 points), Stephen Curry (13 points), Anthony Edwards (11 points), and both Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, who each chipped in 10 points. This balanced attack, combined with James’ leadership, proved too much for Germany to handle.

James’ performance against Germany followed another clutch outing just two days earlier, where he scored the game-winning basket against South Sudan. His consistency and ability to perform under pressure have been crucial for Team USA, making him a standout leader on the court.

With exhibition play now complete, Team USA turns its focus to the Olympics, where they will face Serbia in their first game on July 28. LeBron James’ recent form suggests that the Americans are in good hands as they have found their closer and unquestioned leader of the team.
