Four Star defensive lineman Alex ‘TA’ Cunningham will be announcing his commitment on Saturday, July 22nd at 1:30pm. The 6’6-275lb product from Miami Central High School has over 60 reported offers and has narrowed down his list to a top five of Penn State, Oklahoma, Miami, Texas A&M, and Michigan.

Cunningham has had a rather unusual high school journey that started out at Providence Christian Academy in Georgia. After his freshman year, Cunningham transferred about 30 minutes up the road to Johns Creek High School where he recorded 22 tackles for loss and 7 sacks as a sophomore.

Prior to his junior season, the talented defender made headlines when he transferred to Los Alamitos High School in Orange County, California. This was one of the first big name transfers that was linked to recently changed NIL laws in California. Cunningham was ruled ineligible for a majority of his junior season but racked up 17 tackles once cleared toward the end of the year.

Cunningham made news again after his junior season when he was part of a trio that transferred from California to South Florida. TA Cunningham, his younger brother TK Cunningham, and 2025 QB Bekkem Krtiza all made the move over to Miami Central High School where Cunningham will play his senior year.

The versatile defensive lineman has the potential to be great at the next level with his elite size and athleticism. Cunningham can play inside or outside and has the ability to clog the middle and be disruptive in the backfield. Some schools, including Miami, want to see more of him in person and in pads after he missed a majority of his junior season. Those evaluations will continue to happen throughout the season and could impact his recruitment even after his upcoming commitment.

Prediction

Cunningham’s recruitment has been all over the place and hard to track but seems to have settled down over the past few months. With many schools wanting to continue to evaluate him this season, I think this recruitment is far from over. When TA Cunningham commits this Saturday, I anticipate him joining a top-10 Penn State 2024 class. The Nittany Lions have been recruiting him the hardest and his visit to Penn State in June is the only official visit he’s taken so far. If Cunningham has a strong senior season, I think many schools will turn up the heat and Penn State will have to battle to hold on.
