The Miami Marlins capped off an impressive weekend in Baltimore with a commanding 11-1 win over the Orioles on Sunday, taking the three-game series two games to one and extending their win streak to two. After falling short in the opener, Miami responded with back-to-back dominant performances, led by stellar pitching and a historic showing from All-Star outfielder Kyle Stowers.
Friday night belonged to Baltimore as Dean Kremer silenced Miami’s lineup with seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven. The Orioles jumped on Edward Cabrera early, scoring twice in the first and two more in the third before Cabrera exited with right elbow discomfort. Jordan Westburg had three hits and scored three times, while Ryan O’Hearn and Ramón Laureano each drove in two. Otto Lopez saved the Marlins from a shutout with a two-run homer in the ninth, but it was too late to prevent the 5-2 loss.
Miami bounced back Saturday in a tight pitcher’s duel. Janson Junk delivered the best start of his career, tossing seven shutout innings with five hits allowed and no walks. The offense broke through late, scoring once in the seventh after Trevor Rogers exited and adding five more runs across the final two innings, including a two-run homer from Xavier Edwards. Kyle Stowers made a key defensive play in the first, throwing out Gunnar Henderson at the plate to keep the game scoreless. The 6-0 win evened the series and set the stage for a fireworks-filled finale.
Sunday’s game was all about Kyle Stowers. Facing the team that drafted him, the 27-year-old torched his former club with a three-homer, five-hit, six-RBI performance that powered the Marlins to a blowout win. Stowers homered in the second, third, and fifth innings, becoming the first Marlin since 2020 to hit three home runs in a game and the first player to do it against the Orioles since 2022. He added an RBI single in the eighth to round out his first career five-hit game. Otto Lopez joined the power display with a solo homer in the third, while Eury Pérez dominated on the mound, striking out six over seven shutout innings. A rain delay of over 90 minutes didn’t faze the Marlins, who handed Brandon Young a career-high seven earned runs.
With the series win, Miami improves to 44-51 and heads into the break with momentum. After a rough start to the season, the Marlins are showing signs of life, and Kyle Stowers’ breakout weekend could mark a turning point for both him and the team.
