The Miami Dolphins have a lot of promise and potential with their young quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa; however, the team experienced serious struggles with his injuries during the 2022 season. The Dolphins made the playoffs for the first time since 2016, but Tua suffered from three concussions that caused him to miss games or play subpar during others. This is why there is a compelling argument for the Dolphins to pursue Aaron Rodgers this offseason, given his talent and potential fit with the team, should he decide he wants out of Green Bay. Rodgers has been disgruntled with his team and recently spent four days in a “darkness retreat” where he pondered if he will return to Green Bay, retire or demand a trade request. According to Senior NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Dolphins are interested in exploring “multiple options at quarterback” for this upcoming season:

Rodgers is still an elite quarterback with a career that spans over 18 years in the NFL. He has led the Green Bay Packers to two Super Bowl appearances, one win, and was named the Super Bowl MVP. However, Rodgers has been publicly disgruntled with the Packers organization in recent years, citing a lack of support and input in decision-making. Rodger’s frustration has led to public spats with the Packers’ organization that has made national news for the last couple of seasons. It is no secret that Rodgers is strongly considering a change of scenery, which could benefit the Dolphins greatly should he request a trade.

One of the main reasons the Dolphins should pursue Rodgers is his proven track record of success. He has consistently been one of the top quarterbacks in the league, with an impressive career passer rating of 103.6 He has thrown for over 59,000 yards and has 475 touchdown passes to his name, showcasing his exceptional talent and ability to lead an offense. With the Dolphins’ talented receiving corps, Rodgers could take their offense to the next level and make them a true playoff contender.

Another reason to consider pursuing Rodgers is his experience and leadership. He has been in the league for over a decade and has played in high-pressure situations, including the playoffs and the Super Bowl. He is known for his ability to lead a team, and his presence would be invaluable in the Dolphins’ locker room. In his career, Rodgers has 21 fourth-quarter comebacks and 31 career game-winning drives. His winning experience can benefit Tua long term, as he can pass down knowledge from his illustrious career on his thought process during crunch situations.

Rodgers’ mobility and ability to extend plays are also a huge asset to the Dolphins. He has a unique ability to evade pressure and create plays out of nothing, which is something that Tua has yet to fully showcase in his young career. Having Rodgers’ skill set could open up new possibilities for the Dolphins’ offense, which would make them an even more formidable opponent. In the most recent Superbowl we saw the importance of having elite mobile quarterbacks that can throw when Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts lead their teams on the biggest stage.

Lastly, there is the Mike McDaniel factor. The rookie head coach was instrumental in scheming opportunities for Tua and the Dolphins’ offense to succeed just enough to squeak into the playoffs despite an injury-riddled season from their starting QB. I can see a refreshed and rejuvenated Aaron Rodgers working with an innovative coach putting up more efficient numbers in the Dolphins’ offense, and Miami making a deep playoff run for the first time since the Dan Marino era. If I am the Dolphins brass, this move is a no-brainer because having an elite-caliber play caller like Rodgers is not an opportunity you get very often. If Rodgers becomes available, it will be the best opportunity the Dolphins have had of landing an elite quarterback since Drew Brees in 2006.
