The Miami Heat edged closer to the Indiana Pacers as Terry Rozier stepped up in spectacular fashion to lead his team to a 109-99 victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. Rozier, in what turned out to be his highest-scoring game since joining the Heat, poured in 34 points, highlighted by a critical beat-the-shot-clock 3-pointer with just 34 seconds left on the clock. Miami not only secured a win against their archrivals but also took a significant step towards avoiding the play-in tournament in the Eastern Conference.

The Heat’s win shows how much the heat have improved since last time they played the Knicks. Earlier in the season, on November 24, the Knicks had managed to overturn a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter against Miami. This time, however, Rozier’s heroics ensured there would be no repeat of that comeback.

Donte DiVincenzo led the scoring for the Knicks with 31 points, followed by Deuce McBride who added 24 points. Jalen Brunson, despite struggling with his shooting, managed to finish with 20 points and 10 assists. On the Heat’s side, Rozier’s outstanding performance was supported by Jimmy Butler with 17 points, Bam Adebayo with 15, and Haywood Highsmith adding 14 points.

The significance of this victory cannot be understated. It kept the Heat aligned with the Indiana Pacers in the loss column for the sixth and direct final berth into the best-of-seven first-round of the playoffs. Miami is now just half a game behind the Pacers, marking a critical point in their playoff pursuit.

Rozier’s recent performances have been crucial in leading the Miami Heat to victories. Over the last three games, he has averaged 27.7 points, four rebounds, and 3.7 assists. His proficiency from the 3-point line has been particularly noteworthy, making 19 threes and shooting an impressive 59.4% from beyond the arc during this stretch.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra praised Rozier’s adaptation to the team and his aggressive play, “It’s taken him some time to get comfortable here, and we wanted to show him a little bit of grace, but we had a ton of moving parts. By now he knows that everyone wants him to be that aggressive.”

Despite the absence of Tyler Herro, the Heat showed their depth and ability to overcome adversity. The Knicks, missing OG Anunoby and Julius Randle, faced their own challenges but couldn’t match Miami’s intensity when it mattered most. The victory not only adds another winning season to the Heat’s record in the Pat Riley era but also sets up an alluring showdown against the Philadelphia 76ers, who recently welcomed back Joel Embiid. Miami must maintain its focus and continue to approach these last games like playoff games as they battle for the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference.
