The Miami Hurricanes (4-2, 0-2 ACC) are set to face the Clemson Tigers (4-2, 2-2 ACC) in a pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference matchup tonight. Unfortunately, Miami will be without one of its key stars, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. In the days leading up to the game, Van Dyke was seen with his entire right leg wrapped in bandages, according to an anonymous source. He was also limited throughout the week during the team’s practice sessions in preparation for Saturday’s game. Following reports that indicated Van Dyke would be a game-time decision on his playing status, it has been decided that he will not be able to play tonight against the Tigers.
Van Dyke has recorded over 1,700 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and six interceptions this season, while completing 129 of his 183 passes, boasting a 70.5% completion rate. His performance has earned him recognition as the nation’s fifth-best quarterback, holding a 91.5 overall grade according to Pro Football Focus in Miami’s first six games of the 2023 season.
In place of Van Dyke, the young and talented freshman quarterback, Emory Williams, hailing from Milton, Florida, will step into the spotlight and earn his first collegiate start for Miami tonight. In three games this season, the former Elite 11 quarterback completed 12 of his 15 passes, securing an 80% completion rate and accumulating 180 passing yards. All eyes, and what seems to be the weight of the world, rest on Williams’ shoulders tonight as Miami aims to secure their first conference victory of the year and avoid a three-game losing streak in October after starting their season 4-0 in September.
