Miami will look to land its second offensive line commit in the 2024 class on July 7th when Deryc Plazz announces his commitment. The 6’5-290lb lineman out of Jacksonville will be announcing his decision between Miami and N.C. State this Friday at noon.
Plazz is a consensus three-star prospect that committed to Penn State in early June, but decommitted less than two weeks later before taking an official visit to Miami on June 16th. The interior lineman out of Mandarin High School had nearly 30 offers but cut his list down to Miami and N.C. State following his decommitment from PSU. After his official visit to Miami on the 16th, Plazz took an official visit to Raleigh to check out the Wolfpack on June 23rd.
Plazz started at tackle last year for Andrew Jackson High School and helped lead them to a district title before transferring to Mandarin. The big, physical lineman will likely slide inside at the next level and play at the guard position but has the size and athleticism to play anywhere on the offensive line.
The Wolfpack seemed to have a leg up in the recruitment of the talented offensive lineman, but the Canes have made a strong push and seem to be in the driver seat heading into tomorrow’s announcement. Miami holds a 70% to 30% lead over N.C. State in the 247Sports crystal ball predictions, with the three most recent expert picks falling the way of the Canes. The Canes also hold a substantial lead on ON3’s recruiting prediction machine.
If Plazz chooses the Canes he would join Juan Minaya as the only other offensive lineman currently in Miami’s 2024 class. A commitment from Plazz would likely bump the Canes’ recruiting class back into the top 20 nationally and the top 3 in the ACC.
