The Florida Panthers came up short against the Edmonton Oilers, losing 5-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Tuesday night. The Panthers now lead the series 3-2 and will head back to Edmonton for game six on Friday.

The game was marked by a valiant effort from Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk, who epitomized the team’s determination. With the Panthers trailing and their net empty in the final seconds, Tkachuk made a diving attempt to prevent an empty-net goal, only to see Edmonton’s Connor McDavid seal the victory at 19:41.

Despite the loss, the Panthers maintained a calm and composed demeanor post-game. “We’ve just got to win one game,” forward Sam Bennett said. “It’s as simple as that.”

The Oilers struck first with a shorthanded goal by Connor Brown at 5:30 of the first period. Edmonton extended their lead in the second period with a power-play goal from Zach Hyman and a five-hole shot from McDavid, making it 3-0.

Tkachuk brought the Panthers back into the game, scoring at 6:53 of the second period. However, the Oilers quickly responded with another power-play goal from Corey Perry. Evan Rodrigues kept Florida in the game by scoring just 14 seconds later, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

The Panthers continued to fight back in the third period, with Oliver Ekman-Larsson scoring at 4:04 to make it a one-goal game. Despite outshooting the Oilers 11-4 in the final period and generating numerous scoring chances, the Panthers couldn’t find the equalizer. McDavid’s empty-net goal in the final seconds secured Edmonton’s win.

Florida coach Paul Maurice emphasized the need to focus on the next game. “We’ve got to find a way to stay out of the penalty box. That’ll be part of it,” he said.

The Panthers will aim to capitalize on their strong 5-on-5 play and avoid early deficits in game six. “We had a good push,” Tkachuk said. “I thought at 5-on-5 we played really well. That’s something to build off next game.”

As the series heads back to Rogers Place, the Panthers are determined to clinch their first Stanley Cup title. “We’re up 3-2 going back to Edmonton,” Tkachuk said. “Get back healthy, rested, and ready to go.”
