Miami’s star forward will spend at least one more year in Coral Gables.
First reported by the Miami Herald and confirmed to LifeWallet Sports by UM Athletics, Hurricanes forward Norchad Omier will return to Miami after declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft on April 24.
Through this process, Omier received an invitation to the NBA G League Elite Camp. In Game 1 of this combine, he scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and grabbed eight rebounds but did not receive an invitation to participate in the following NBA Combine.
Omier blossomed into one of the brightest stars in the ACC last season, averaging 13.1 points and 10 rebounds per game. He was recognized on the All-ACC Third Team.
As Miami’s interior anchor throughout its historic 2023 Final Four run, Omier totaled a tournament-high 60 rebounds, spearheaded by a 17-rebound performance in the Hurricanes’ Round of 32 win over Indiana.
Before his time at UM, the 6-foot-7 Nicaraguan played two seasons at Arkansas State and was honored as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in his second campaign.
Next season with the Hurricanes, Omier will unite with key returnees like Wooga Poplar and Bensley Joseph. Guard Nijel Pack, who also declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his collegiate eligibility, might also return.
This nucleus is joined by Florida State transfer Matthew Cleveland, as well as incoming freshmen Michael Nwoko and Kyshawn George.
