Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes football coaching staff remain active in the transfer portal, with the objective of improving and shoring up any roster deficiencies ahead of the 2023 season. They continue to do so, after former Nebraska running back Ajay Allen announced his commitment to the football team on Monday evening.

Allen was an explosive running back at Neville High School in Louisiana. During his senior season, he rushed for more than 2,200 yards and scored 34 touchdowns for the Neville Tigers. During his prep career, Allen earned the nickname “Quick 6” for his ability to break long touchdown runs.

Allen was a four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, which is when he signed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers after flipping his commitment from the TCU Horned Frogs.

As a true freshman for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he rushed for 190 yards on 33 carries, scoring two touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Allen played in each of the first four games of the 2022 season for Nebraska before suffering a season-ending injury, in addition to receiving a medical redshirt. He has since recovered from the injury and was a full-participant during the Cornhuskers spring practices.

Allen is an addition at a position of need for Miami and the Hurricanes are getting insurance in the backfield. Miami returns their leading rusher from the 2022 season in Henry Parrish Jr., meanwhile Don Chaney Jr. appears to be healthy for the first time in a while, his history of multiple injuries and a shortage of scholarship running backs during spring practices led Miami to dip into the transfer portal to add another blue-chip talent to the room. Prized class of 2022 recruit, TreVonte’ Citizen, will be sidelined for a period of time during this upcoming season according to a team source. Citizen suffered a season-ending leg injury during last season’s fall camp.

Miami will have more help on the way when two freshman running backs arrive in the summer, the big and imposing four-star High School All-American Mark Fletcher Jr., and four-star speedster Christopher Johnson Jr.; both running backs hail from the Broward County area in South Florida.
