When Hurricanes offensive line coach Alex Mirabal offered 2024 offensive lineman Moritz Schmoranzer last Monday, the German-born prospect already had his sights set on visiting Miami.

“When I got the call and [when Miami] offered, we were already talking about the official visit and just the image I had of Miami in my head was just, ‘I got to go there. I got to see that place,’” Schmoranzer told LifeWallet Sports.

The following day, Schmoranzer announced that he would be taking an official visit to UM later that week. He arrived in Coral Gables on Thursday and stayed there until Sunday.

“It was amazing,” Schmoranzer said. “Just like the vibe of the city of Miami and the vibe that the whole place has: the university, the college, the players, the whole team and the coaching staff. It’s just so, so different from other colleges, and it’s truly amazing.”

On his visit, Schmoranzer learned more about Miami’s academic rigor and its renowned football program.

“Academic-wise, it’s very prestigious in the ACC. You got to be intelligent to go there,” Schmoranzer said. “And football-wise, the culture is, it’s just crazy. The 2000s era was just crazy in there. I could clearly see that they are trying to get that back … getting the team back to that standard.”

Schmoranzer was also impressed by Mirabal, who was the coach that Schmoranzer said he spoke to the most on his visit.

“He’s very smart. He’s intelligent,” Schmoranzer said about Mirabal. “He knows how to teach. He knows what to teach. I mean, he just knows so much.”

Miami’s coaching staff’s message to Schmoranzer was straightforward. They want him to be a part of the Hurricanes’ 2024 recruiting class.

“They really want me to be a Hurricane. I mean, that’s basically what they were saying,” Schmoranzer said. “They like me as a player and as a person, and they want me to play for them and be coached by them.”

This was Schmoranzer’s third official visit, as he took trips to Virginia Tech and West Virginia earlier this month. His final official visit of June will be this coming weekend to Pittsburgh.
