LifeWallet athlete and University of Miami sprinter, Moriah Oliveira, walked away with double the recognition this month at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Oliveira would capture third-place and a bronze medal by recording a final time of 52.90, in the women’s 400-meter dash for the University of Miami during the ACC Indoor Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Oliveira, is a native of Fort Myers, Florida, and was the Lee County Fema Track Athlete of the Year and two-time 400-meter dash state champion during her high school career.
The night would become much more memorable for Moriah and the Miami women’s track & field team. The finale of the event, the 4×400 meter relay, would become quite the shift of emotions of defeat and subsequent victory. Oliveira, Kennedy Brace, Blanca Harvas and Sanaa Hebron were set to run for the Hurricanes.
During the final stretch of the relay, Sanaa Hebron appeared to have come in second behind Duke University’s, Megan McGinnis. An official review from the Atlantic Coast Conference would prove otherwise, after it was ruled that McGinnis had actually dropped the baton just before the finish line.
Ultimately leading to the University of Miami women’s track & field team walking away victorious and claiming first place. The four-women led team (Brace, Harvas, Hebron and Oliveira) would clock in an official time of 3:32.56, and were granted gold medals in honor of their achievement.
