One of the country’s premier high school basketball players is making his return to South Florida.
Class of 2024 forward Marcus Allen announced on Friday that he will attend Miami Norland (Fla.) High School for his senior season, which is where he went for his first two years of high school before transferring to AZ Compass (Ariz.) Prep for his junior year.
This return, according to Allen, was motivated by the bond he has with his family.
“My decision on coming back home was really factored by family!” Allen told LifeWallet Sports. “Family is a big part of my life so just being with them for my last year of high school is really going to be something I cherish forever.”
In his freshman and sophomore campaigns at Norland, Allen averaged 15.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Vikings will likely be state-championship contenders in 2023-24, as Allen joins an already talented nucleus that is expected to return multiple contributors from its team last season that advanced to the regional finals.
This decision could also pay dividends for the hometown Miami Hurricanes in their recruitment of Allen. The 6-foot-6 prospect is being heavily pursued by Jim Larrañaga and his staff, as UM is one of the schools that is in constant communication with him.
Allen took an official visit to Miami in August 2022. Stanford, Florida State and Missouri are among the many high-major programs also going after Allen, according to 24/7 High School Hoops.
