Miami Hurricanes Women’s Basketball Secures Dominant Victory Over Wake Forest

The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team (14-6, 4-5 ACC) completed a season sweep over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-17, 0-9 ACC) with a convincing 72-54 victory on Thursday night, February 1st, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Despite a 5-0 run by Wake Forest in the final two minutes of the first quarter, Miami maintained a ten-point lead. Shayeann Day-Wilson led the charge, contributing seven crucial points in the first half. While Wake Forest briefly took the lead at 24-22 with a barrage of three-pointers, Miami regained control, finishing the first half with a three-point lead.

Coming out of halftime, Miami initiated a 12-3 run, establishing a 43-31 lead, their largest of the game at that point. Jasmyne Roberts and Shayeann Day-Wilson showcased their scoring prowess, with Roberts hitting a crucial three to extend the lead. Despite Wake Forest narrowing the gap, Miami maintained a double-digit lead after Day-Wilson’s three-pointer with 1:37 left in the third quarter.

Entering the fourth quarter, Roberts and Day-Wilson continued their stellar performances, guiding Miami to a 54-40 advantage. Lemyah Hylton’s quick six points, including a three-pointer, further solidified the Canes’ lead at 60-43. Miami outscored the Demon Deacons by 15 points in the second half, sealing their second double-digit victory against Wake Forest this season.

Head Coach Katie Meier celebrated her 150th ACC win, and Miami showcased dominance with a 15-point advantage in points off turnovers and a 12-point lead in points in the paint.

Jasmyne Roberts and Shayeann Day-Wilson both contributed 15 points each, with Day-Wilson achieving double figures in six consecutive games. Latasha Lattimore and Hylton contributed nine points each off the bench, while Kyla Oldacre added eight with a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line.

This win marked Miami’s first road-ACC victory of the season, setting the stage for their upcoming conference matchup against their bitter in-state rivals, the Florida State Seminoles, on Sunday, February 4th, in Tallahassee, Florida. Tipoff is set for 11:00 A.M. EST, and the game will be broadcast on the CW Network.
