As the sports world gears up for Super Bowl LVIII, two former Miami Hurricanes teammates are set to face off on the grandest stage of them all. Despite the challenges the Miami Hurricanes have faced over the past two decades at the college level, they continue to leave their mark on the Super Bowl. To date, the Hurricanes boast the highest total points scored in NFL history by college alumni.

This year, Jon Feliciano and Deon Bush add their names to this prestigious legacy.

Jon Feliciano, entered the NFL in 2015 as a fourth-round draft pick by the then-Oakland Raiders, after his time at the University of Miami (Fla). Standing at 6-4 and weighing 325 pounds, Feliciano spent three seasons with the Buffalo Bills (2019-2021) before joining the Giants in 2022, where he started 15 games. Signed by the Niners as a depth addition, Feliciano quickly proved himself as a versatile linchpin capable of playing both guard and center positions. Having started seven games in 2023, Feliciano now steps into the Super Bowl as the starting right guard, facing off against one of the league’s premier defensive lines, led by the formidable Chris Jones. Feliciano, prepared and eager, does not take this moment lightly. “I am definitely competing for a spot upfront. At the end of the day, the most important thing to me is to win a Super Bowl,” Feliciano expressed.

On the Chiefs’ side stands Deon Bush, another former Hurricane making his Super Bowl appearance. The strong safety, originally a fourth-round pick by the Bears, contributed to Chicago over six seasons, starting in 12 games. Joining the Chiefs as a free agent, Bush played a pivotal role in their special teams during their 2023 Super Bowl championship run. Despite limited playtime this season, Bush remained vigilant, stepping up crucially when the Chiefs’ starting safety Mike Edwards was injured, securing a decisive interception that propelled the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl appearance. “I knew it was big. It’s a blessing to be able to go back to the Super Bowl with this team. Back-to-back,” said Bush.

For Feliciano and Bush, their journey highlights the resilience and determination of underdogs—players overlooked and undervalued, yet indispensable in their contribution to their teams. Their stories exemplify the spirit of Miami Hurricanes: given an opportunity, they make significant impacts, whether by securing a starting role or making a playoff-defining play. No matter the size of the moment or circumstances, one thing you can always count on is that Miami Hurricanes will always come ready to play.
