The Miami Hurricanes recruiting hot streak continues with the commitment of Herbert Scroggins, a defensive line prospect from Georgia. Standing at 6’2″ and 235 lbs, Scroggins brings both size and skill to Miami’s defensive front.
This year, the Canes have strategically emphasized recruiting in talent-rich areas such as Alabama and Georgia. This focus has paid off, as multiple commitments and targets for the Hurricanes hail from these regions. The addition of Scroggins is a testament to Miami’s dedication to securing top talent from competitive football landscapes outside of South Florida.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Scroggins is rated as a three-star prospect. He is ranked as the No. 407 player in the country, the No. 29 edge player nationally, and the No. 46 player in the state of Georgia. His recruitment journey was closely watched, with Auburn initially leading the race for his commitment. Scroggins was set to commit to the Tigers on Tuesday, June 25th. However, the Miami coaching staff never wavered in their pursuit. Their persistence paid off as Scroggins pushed back his commitment date, ultimately trending towards Miami leading up to his announcement today.
Scroggins is Miami’s 14th commitment and the first defensive line commit of the 2025 recruiting cycle. This addition propels Miami’s class into the top-15 nationally. Impressively, Scroggins is the Hurricanes’ sixth commitment in a span of two weeks—a period where Miami has successfully gone head-to-head with powerhouse programs such as Auburn, Florida State, Clemson, and Georgia, securing significant commitments.
As June ends, Miami is not slowing down and are expected to continue their scorching recruiting. The Hurricanes remain active in the recruiting landscape and are in contention for more high-profile players in the coming days and into July. Stay tuned for more updates as Miami continues to build a top-five 2025 recruiting class.
