The Miami Dolphins faced a familiar opponent and a frustratingly familiar outcome on Sunday as they fell to the Buffalo Bills 30-27, extending their losing streak in Buffalo to nine consecutive games. In a hard-fought game that saw four lead changes and seven straight scoring drives in the second half, Miami came up just short when Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass nailed a career-best 61-yard field goal with only five seconds left, sealing Miami’s fate.
From the outset, the Dolphins looked ready to compete, matching Buffalo’s early intensity and showing resilience on defense. The Dolphins held the Bills to field goals on their first three red-zone trips, including an impressive interception near the goal line by cornerback Jalen Ramsey, his first pick as a Dolphin. That crucial takeaway set up a methodical 14-play, 97-yard drive capped by a touchdown, giving Miami a 10-3 lead early in the second quarter. But while Miami went into halftime with a narrow 10-6 edge, the second half proved far more explosive and challenging.
In a back-and-forth second half, the Bills’ offense came alive with three consecutive touchdown drives, led by quarterback Josh Allen, who bounced back from an early interception to throw three second-half touchdowns. Miami answered Buffalo’s offensive surge with two touchdowns of their own, one from running back De’Von Achane, who finished with a solid 63 yards on the ground and contributed in the passing game with a 14-yard receiving touchdown. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who completed 25 of 28 passes for 231 yards and two scores, was efficient and poised, doing his best to keep pace with Buffalo’s high-powered attack.
However, Miami’s second-half momentum was hampered by critical mistakes. A fumble by Raheem Mostert on their opening drive of the half handed Buffalo an opportunity to grab the lead, and later, an unnecessary roughness penalty on former Bill Jordan Poyer allowed Buffalo to extend a crucial drive in the game’s closing moments.
The Dolphins’ offense executed well, with Achane and Mostert powering a productive ground game, and Tagovailoa finding Tyreek Hill for two big gains as part of Hill’s 80-yard receiving day. But the lack of deep passing plays, combined with costly penalties and turnovers, left Miami just shy of breaking their long-standing curse in Buffalo.
With this loss, the Dolphins fall to 2-6 and face an uphill battle in the AFC East. As the team looks ahead to a Monday Night showdown with the Los Angeles Rams, there’s a pressing need to regroup, minimize errors, and find consistency to keep their season hopes alive.
