The Miami Dolphins finally delivered the performance fans have been waiting for, defeating the Los Angeles Rams 23-15 on Monday Night Football at SoFi Stadium. A blend of stifling defense, explosive offensive moments, and special teams precision propelled Miami to its third win of the season, giving them a much-needed boost in an otherwise challenging year.
Miami’s defense, which has struggled for consistency throughout the season, was relentless from start to finish. They held the Rams to a series of field goals and kept them out of the end zone entirely, recording four sacks and forcing two key turnovers. This effort was anchored by a mix of seasoned veterans and promising rookies.
Defensive tackle Zach Sieler’s return from injury added muscle to the line, as he disrupted the Rams’ backfield and allowed his teammates to shine. Rookie linebacker Chop Robinson contributed five pressures and a third-down sack, while veteran Calais Campbell showed his experience by tipping a Matthew Stafford pass, which led to a pivotal interception by linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. Miami’s defense consistently thwarted Los Angeles on third downs, keeping the Rams to a 25% conversion rate.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa also had a solid night, going 20-of-28 for 207 yards, a touchdown, and one interception. Though not flawless, Tagovailoa effectively led Miami’s offense, particularly in key moments. His early connection with Jaylen Waddle set the tone, with Waddle grabbing a 36-yard reception that brought Miami into scoring range on the opening drive.
The Dolphins’ offense featured a few explosive plays, including rookie Malik Washington’s 18-yard rush for his first career touchdown, giving Miami an early 7-0 lead. Despite a few missteps, including a third-down drop by Waddle and a turnover, the offense managed to capitalize when it counted, sustaining drives and keeping the pressure on Los Angeles.
Miami’s special teams were also crucial in the win. Kicker Jason Sanders nailed three field goals, including two from 50 yards, pushing Miami’s lead in critical moments. The Rams struggled with their own kicking game, as Joshua Karty missed a 57-yard attempt, which could have shifted the game’s momentum early in the second half. Punter Jake Bailey also played a key role, pinning the Rams deep and limiting return opportunities.
For Miami, the victory revealed the potential this team has when all three phases of the game come together. Though the Dolphins remain outside the AFC East race, currently led by Buffalo, the win renews hope for a possible wildcard berth. They’ll look to build on this momentum as they return home to face the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday.
