While the month of June is set to be a very busy and exciting time for Miami Hurricanes Football fans with over 30-plus recruits set to take official visits, upcoming commitments and Legends Camp; the excitement is kicking off earlier than expected.

Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff would continue to prioritize their backyard after landing a commitment on Memorial Weekend, via Miami-Dade County’s 4M-3M Defensive Player of the Year.

6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive lineman, Daylen Russell, out of Christopher Columbus High School High School (FL) chose the Hurricanes over the Florida State Seminoles, Louisville Cardinals, Nebraska Cornhuskers and UCF Golden Knights. The star defensive lineman from Mario Cristobal’s old stomping grounds (Columbus HS) has been a frequent visitor to the Coral Gables campus for the past year, while taking in multiple game day visits and spring practice visits.

During his junior campaign, Russell would produce 62 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss and eight sacks, in addition to leading the Columbus Explorers to their second state title in four years.

With Russell’s commitment, Miami now has nine commitments in their 2024 recruiting class and have moved up to the 23rd-ranked class in the country, according to the recruiting industry’s composite team rankings.
