The Miami Hurricanes have notched their second recruiting victory in July. Andrew Jackson (FL) three-star offensive tackle, Deryc Plazz, committed to the University of Miami over North Carolina State on Friday afternoon. With scholarship offers pouring in from top programs such as Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, Pitt, and UCF, Plazz had an array of options to choose from, fielding over 30 scholarship offers.
Plazz’s recruitment process had its fair share of twists. He officially visited Penn State during the weekend of June 2nd and quickly committed to the Nittany Lions by the end of his visit on June 4th. However, his commitment was short-lived as he decommitted from Penn State on June 15th. Shortly after, Plazz took an official visit to Miami the weekend of June 16th, which ultimately led to his decision to commit to the Hurricanes in July.
Miami’s victory over NC State in the recruitment battle for Plazz’s services is a testament to the program’s resilience and dedication on the trail. The Wolfpack had been actively pursuing Plazz for well over a year, making Miami’s triumph even more remarkable. What makes Plazz’s commitment to Miami even more noteworthy is the relatively short timeframe in which the Hurricanes became involved in his recruitment compared to NC State.
Plazz received an offer from Miami in February, and from that point on, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman took multiple unofficial visits to Coral Gables. These visits allowed Plazz to familiarize himself with the campus, coaching staff, and the overall atmosphere of the program, ultimately paving the way for his official visit this summer. Head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal played instrumental roles in securing Plazz’s commitment.
Plazz’s decision to join the Hurricanes adds to the program’s offensive line prospects for the 2024 recruiting class. He becomes the second offensive lineman to commit to Miami, following the April commitment of three-star Juan Minaya from Paramus Catholic (NJ). Plazz’s commitment brings the total number of commitments for the Hurricanes’ 2024 recruiting class up to 16.
