Marlins Week in Review: Hard Times

The Miami Marlins dropped three out of four games to the Colorado Rockies in a series that began on Monday. The Marlins are now 25-26 on the season and are in third place in the NL East. Jorge Soler was the Marlins’ top performer in the series, hitting three home runs and driving in five runs. Yuli Gurriel also had a strong series, with seven hits and driving in one run.

The Marlins’ pitching staff struggled in the series, allowing 27 runs in four games. The Marlins’ pitching staff had a combined ERA of 6.75 in the series.

MVP of the Week: Jorge Soler
Soler continued to carry the Marlins on his back in the series against the Rockies. He hit three home runs and drove in five runs, and he also scored five runs. Soler’s batting average is now .261, and he has 15 home runs and 32 RBIs on the season.

Cause for Concern: Pitching Staff
The Marlins’ pitching staff struggled in the series against the Rockies. The Marlins’ starting pitchers continue to struggle and lose games for the Fish. The Marlins will need their pitching staff to improve if they want to be a playoff contender.

NL East & Wild Card Standings
The Marlins are currently third in the NL East with a 25-26 record. After losing three out of four games to the Rockies, the Marlins are on the outside looking in, in 5th place in the wild card standings, a game out of the third place New York Mets and a half game behind the San Francisco Giants. The Marlins now start a crucial series against the Los Angeles Angels who are 28-23 for the year. Luzardo will face off versus Reid Detmers for the Angels who has struggled and is 0-3 on the year with a 4.87 ERA. This is a great opportunity for the Marlins to steal the first game and get back to .500.
