The Miami Marlins found themselves in another tense extra-inning battle Tuesday night—and once again, they delivered. Jesús Sánchez played the hero, lacing a bases-loaded single in the 10th inning to give Miami a thrilling 5-4 walk-off win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at loanDepot Park, sealing a statement series victory over one of baseball’s hottest teams.
The Dodgers, winners of eight of their last nine coming in, leaned on superstar power to stay afloat. Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman each launched solo home runs in the sixth to erase a Miami lead and showcased the type of firepower that has made L.A. a juggernaut. But the Marlins counterpunched with resilience and timely execution.
After Connor Norby’s RBI double and Dane Myers’ single put the Marlins back in front 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Ohtani returned in the seventh to deliver again—this time with a game-tying double. With Ohtani on third and two open bases, Miami made a bold call to pitch to Freeman, who entered the night red-hot. Calvin Faucher didn’t blink. He got Freeman swinging to end the threat, a defining moment that turned the tide.
In the 10th, the Marlins capitalized on the automatic runner, loading the bases before Sánchez lined a shot up the middle despite the Dodgers deploying five infielders. It marked Miami’s fifth walk-off win of the season and gave them a much-needed emotional boost after a rocky start to the year.
Liam Hicks had earlier sparked Miami’s offense with a two-run homer in the fifth, while starter Cal Quantrill was solid over five innings, allowing just one run with six strikeouts. On the mound, Jesús Tinoco earned the win with two strong innings in relief.
The Dodgers got strong outings from Tony Gonsolin and their sluggers, but couldn’t overcome key missed opportunities. Freeman extended his hitting streak to 11 games and now has 42 career home runs against Miami, more than any other opponent in franchise history.
The Marlins will hand the ball to right-hander Valente Bellozo in the series finale on Wednesday, looking to build momentum off a gutsy win that showed this club’s heart is still beating strong.
