The Miami Marlins faced off against the San Diego Padres in a three-game mid-week series. Unfortunately for the Marlins, they were unable to come out on top, losing two out of the three games.

In the first game of the series, the Padres emerged victorious with a final score of 9-4. Marlins’ starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara had a decent outing, giving up four runs in 6.1 innings pitched. However, he was unable to protect the Marlins’ 3-1 lead that they had built in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bryan De la Cruz provided some offensive firepower with his seventh home run of the season. The game was tied at four going into the ninth inning when Marlin’s reliever Dylan Floro struggled, surrendering five runs and sealing the victory for the Padres.

The second game proved to be a nail-biter, with the Marlins edging out a 2-1 win. Left-hander Braxton Garrett had an impressive start for the Marlins, allowing only one run—a third-inning home run by Gary Sanchez. Garrett showcased his skills with seven strikeouts and surrendered just two hits. Despite struggling to generate offense for most of the game, the Marlins’ bullpen stepped up, holding the Padres scoreless. The stage was set for a dramatic finish in the ninth inning when Jean Segura hit a single, driving in Yuli Gurriel for the tying run. Nick Fortes followed that up with another single, allowing Segura to score from second base and securing the comeback victory for the Marlins.

In the final game of the series, the Marlins had a chance to claim the series win but were ultimately outplayed by the Padres, resulting in a 10-1 defeat. Jesús Luzardo started on the mound for the Marlins but struggled, giving up five runs in 5.1 innings pitched. Reliever Matt Barnes didn’t fare any better, allowing five more runs in the sixth inning. The Marlins’ offense struggled to find its rhythm, with Luis Arraez’s sacrifice fly providing their only run of the game, scoring Jonathan Davis.

Both offensively and defensively, it was a tough series for the Marlins. Particularly concerning was their offensive performance, as they managed to score a mere seven runs over the course of three games. With this series loss, the Marlins’ overall record now stands at 29-28, slipping out of the wild card race and finding themselves a game behind the Mets in the NL East.

Looking ahead, the Marlins have an opportunity to bounce back as they prepare to face the struggling Oakland A’s, who currently hold a 12-46 record. The Marlins will square off against Hogan Harris, who boasts a hefty 10.13 ERA. This upcoming series presents a golden chance for the Marlins to regain their momentum and climb the ranks in the NL East standings.
