The Canes landed one of their top wide receiver targets yesterday when Mario Cristobal flipped four-star Joshua Moore from Billy Napier and the Florida Gators. After Malachi Toney reclassified and decommitted from the class, Cristobal responded by securing Moore. For Miami, adding Moore continues Cristobal’s focus on bringing elite South Florida talent to the team, especially at the skill positions.

Moore, who plays for West Broward, has had a productive high school career so far. He has appeared in 21 games for the Bobcats, amassing 1,869 yards and 20 touchdowns. This season alone, Moore has 32 receptions for over 500 yards and five touchdowns midway through the year. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing over 200 pounds, Moore fits the prototypical X receiver role. He excels at catching short to intermediate passes and is dependable in contested situations. His style involves using his body to shield defenders while securing the football with firm hands, making him a reliable target. Though he doesn’t rely on top-end speed to get open, his ability to make tough catches and maintain possession makes him especially valuable in critical situations.

Miami has excelled at developing X receivers in recent years. Colbie Young had a breakout year with the Canes before transferring to Georgia, where he posted 10 touchdowns and 939 yards over two seasons at Miami. Isaiah Horton, who took over the role this year, has developed into one of the team’s most dependable receivers and is on the verge of stardom. In six games, Horton has recorded 395 yards and three touchdowns.

Josh Moore looks primed to continue Miami’s tradition of strong receiver play at the X position. He is more polished coming out of high school than both Young and Horton, and with Miami’s recent success in wide receiver development, Cristobal and his staff are optimistic about further upgrading the roster with top-tier talent.

Moore not only represents a talent upgrade for the Canes but also continues the psychological edge Mario Cristobal holds over Billy Napier. Over the past few years, Cristobal has consistently out-recruited Napier for top-tier talent, with Miami dominating Florida in recruiting battles. Blue-chip prospects like Samson Okunlola, Francis Mauigoa, Mark Fletcher, Raul Aguirre, TreVonte’ Citizen, Malik Bryant, Chance Robinson, and Tommy Kinsler have all spurned the Gators in favor of Miami. And Miami might not be done flipping Gator commits—stay tuned.
