Local 2024 quarterback Aj Hairston has flown under the national recruiting radar, but that may change soon after his offer from Miami on Feb. 15.
Head coach Mario Cristobal gave the Monarch (Fla.) High School product the offer.
“I started talking to Coach Cristobal and he talked to me, told me everything that I need to keep doing and what I’m doing good that’s working and he gave [the offer] to me,” Hairston told LifeWallet Sports on the “Croot on The U” YouTube show on Wednesday.
This was Hairston’s first Division I offer, and it came from a school that the 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller is very familiar with.
“It was really a boost of motivation to me because I’ve been a Canes fan for a long time,” Hairston said. “My mom goes to all the Canes games when she was younger with my grandpa, so getting this offer was really amazing to me.”
This past year, Hairston led the Knights to their first nine-win season since 2014. He completed 68% of his passes, throwing for 3,217 passing yards and 32 touchdowns, along with another 347 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, during his junior campaign. Hairston was recognized as Broward County’s 4M-3M Player of the Year for this excellence.
Hairston, who plays on the 7-on-7 circuit with DEFCON1, will next showcase his talent at the Under Armour Camp Series in Orlando, Florida, on March 5.
“Just show them what I’m really about, all the hype that all my coaches are talking about me, that I just gotta live up to it,” Hairston said about what he wants to prove at the event.
Hairston is a name to watch this spring as his recruitment continues to heat up leading into his senior season.
