The eleventh-ranked Miami Hurricanes Baseball team (37-18) are on a roll, they have won their last six series, in addition to winning eight of their last ten games to end the regular season.

Their eyes are now set on the postseason and the pressure is on, especially when you consider the postseason success of the university’s men’s and women’s basketball teams during March Madness; a final four finish for men’s basketball and an elite eight run for the women’s basketball team.

The Hurricanes would draw the fourth-seed for the ACC Baseball Championship this week, while seeding has proven to not hold much meaning to South Florida sports teams in 2023… the games still have to be played.

Miami will be facing off against the ninth-seed North Carolina State Wolf Pack on Thursday, who Miami defeated 2-1 in a home series in March (Miami lost the third and final game of that series 14-4).

On Friday, it’s a very recent and familiar opponent, the fifth-seed Duke Blue Devils. The Hurricanes defeated the Blue Devils in a home series 2-1 less than a week ago, although it didn’t come without a bit of drama in the form of a walk-off homer to steal Game 2, before they coasted in Game 3 with a 10-1 victory.

The difference this time around against the two teams based out of the state of North Carolina, well… Miami does not have home field advantage as both games will be played in Durham, North Carolina and the Hurricanes struggled on the road this season with a 9-13 record.

Miami will only have to win one of these two matchups in a round-robin format to advance to the semifinals, due to being the top seeded team in Pool D. If Miami beats NC State on Thursday night, they will automatically advance regardless of the result in their game against Duke on Friday.

NC State has won four of their last five games, meanwhile Duke has lost four of their last five games. It goes without saying, NC State’s 8-7 victory over Duke on Tuesday happened in extra innings and was no easy walk in the park for the Wolfpack either.

What is at stake for the Hurricanes Baseball team overall? If they defeat both NC State and Duke, not only do they advance in the ACC Tournament, but they can continue to cement their chances at being a regional host (home field advantage) in the upcoming NCAA Regionals, which begin on June 2nd.
