In their final midweek game of the season, the 11th-ranked Miami Hurricanes Baseball team would light up the scoreboard against their crosstown rival, the FIU Panthers, 17-3, Tuesday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.

Junior Dominic Pitelli led the offensive fireworks for Miami with three hits, which included seven RBI, while he recorded the fourth grand slam of his career.

Freshman sensation, Blake “Hollywood” Cyr, would have a remarkable game against the Panthers. He moved into first place on the team during the regular season with his 14th home run after blasting one out of the park, while bringing in three runs and safely securing four bases during Miami’s blowout victory.

LifeWallet athletes, Yohandy Morales and CJ Kayfus would also get in on the action. Morales contributed two hits and two runs, while Kayfus added one hit, two runs and two RBI.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Rafe Schlesinger earned his second win of the season in relief, while throwing for 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Schlesinger would outlast seven of the eight batters he went head-to-head with; he would also strike out three batters to cap off the night.

“I might say more because a midweek game than I do an ACC game or a big weekend series game because the crowds are smaller, they’re normally in class and I just want to make sure they’re motivated and ready, if you were to tell me we’d go 10-3 in midweeks, I’d take that. We’ve done a really good job in midweek games the five years I’ve been the head coach. It’s a good mindset going into the weekend,” Miami head coach Gino DiMare said.

Miami would record runs in six of the final nine innings against the Panthers, in addition to a pair of five runs in both the sixth and ninth innings. The Hurricanes completed a season sweep over the FIU Panthers, and a 10-3 overall record in midweek contests this season.

The Hurricanes will take on their final regular season opponent, the Duke Blue Devils, in a weekend series at home. A series that begins on Thursday night at 7:00 PM EST., that could have many implications for the standings in the ACC Coastal Division, ahead of the ACC Baseball Championship which starts next Tuesday (May 23rd).

Miami is currently tied for first in the Coastal Division with Virginia, but the Cavaliers have a better overall record this season, which ultimately means they have the tie-breaker over Miami at this time.

It is crucial that Miami comes out of their weekend series unblemished against Duke, while they hopefully wait for Virginia to drop at least one game in their upcoming weekend series against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

“I’m very proud of the guys, we talked about going 1-0 today. I want to be 1-0 going in the weekend, bottom line. We did what we were supposed to do,” head coach Gino DiMare said.
