The Miami Heat sent a strong message to the rest of the league on Wednesday night, dismantling the Boston Celtics 124-103 at TD Garden. Behind a cohesive team effort, Miami handed the reigning champs their first loss in 10 games and capped off a perfect 3-0 road trip in emphatic fashion. With the victory, the Heat extended their season-best win streak to six games, all by double digits, following a demoralizing 10-game skid.
Tyler Herro led the charge with 25 points and nine assists, showcasing poise as both a scorer and facilitator. Bam Adebayo chipped in 21 points and six assists, anchoring the Heat on both ends of the floor. Seven Miami players reached double figures, including rookie Pelle Larsson, who impressed yet again with 16 points and a gritty defensive effort against Jayson Tatum, holding the All-Star to just 4-of-17 shooting.
Miami built an early lead and never looked back after going up 20-17 late in the first quarter. A dominant first half, fueled by suffocating defense that held Boston to just 37.2% shooting and 16.7% from three, gave the Heat a 14-point edge at halftime. They then exploded with a 10-2 run to open the third, stretching the lead to 22. Although the Celtics responded with a furious 25-6 run to trim the margin to three, Miami remained composed. The Heat closed the third with a 14-7 burst and fended off another Celtics push early in the fourth before pulling away with a 28-13 finish.
Even with Jrue Holiday, Al Horford, and Kristaps Porzingis sidelined for Boston, the Heat were also without key contributors like Nikola Jovic, Kevin Love, Duncan Robinson, and Andrew Wiggins. But Miami’s depth shined. Kyle Anderson had a season-high 19 points off the bench and displayed his trademark craftiness in the paint, while Davion Mitchell added 13 points, seven assists, and three steals, earning a team-best +21 plus-minus. Haywood Highsmith added 10 more as the Heat’s bench outperformed expectations once again.
Miami’s execution was near flawless. They turned the ball over just five times and posted a 5.6 assist-to-turnover ratio, while limiting Boston to 27.9% shooting from beyond the arc—despite the Celtics leading the league in threes made and attempted. The Heat even outscored Boston 42-36 from deep, a testament to their balanced attack.
Wednesday’s win marked Miami’s first regular-season victory in Boston since December 2022 and ended a six-game losing streak to the Celtics. It also lifted head coach Erik Spoelstra to 785 career regular-season wins, passing Gene Shue for 17th on the NBA’s all-time list.
The Heat, currently ninth in the Eastern Conference, are now within striking distance of moving up in the play-in standings. With six games left, they trail the eighth-place Hawks by one game and sit 1.5 games behind the seventh-place Magic. In a season where Miami has often let big leads slip away, this win was a promising display of late-game poise and connectivity.
Now, the Heat return home on short rest to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night, aiming to extend their hot streak and continue climbing the standings before the postseason begins.
