The Miami Heat (3-4) suffered their second consecutive heartbreaking loss, falling to the Phoenix Suns (7-1) with a score of 115-112. Despite leading by as much as 15 points, the Heat’s second-half performance faltered, allowing Phoenix to secure its sixth straight victory.
The Heat had a last-chance opportunity, trailing by three points with under five seconds left. Jimmy Butler inbounded to Terry Rozier, who quickly found himself trapped by Devin Booker and Royce O’Neale. With limited options, Rozier sent the ball back to Butler, who, now inside the three-point line, struggled to set up a viable shot. In the last second, he passed to Tyler Herro, who couldn’t get a shot off as the buzzer sounded, sealing Miami’s defeat.
Tyler Herro led the charge with a stellar 28-point performance on 9-for-15 shooting, including five three-pointers. While Herro’s offensive efficiency continues to improve, Miami’s leading duo—Butler and Bam Adebayo—struggled to find their rhythm. Butler finished with 15 points and Adebayo added 12, though he battled through a rough 5-of-21 shooting night.
Despite Miami’s efforts, the Suns’ key players answered back. Kevin Durant led Phoenix with a game-high 32 points, including a critical jumper with 16 seconds remaining, pushing the Suns ahead by four and giving them the cushion they needed. Jusuf Nurkic was another pivotal figure, amassing 20 points and a dominant 18 rebounds, while Devin Booker chipped in 22 points and nine assists.
Miami’s downfall can be traced to its third-quarter lapse. After taking a substantial lead, the Heat saw the Suns go on a 15-3 run, erasing most of their advantage and setting up a back-and-forth fourth quarter. Phoenix took control in the final minutes, with Bradley Beal’s late three-pointer putting them up 106-103, a lead they would not relinquish.
Coach Erik Spoelstra made a lineup adjustment at halftime, opting to start Haywood Highsmith over Nikola Jovic. Highsmith responded well, contributing 19 points and providing energy on both ends. However, even with strategic changes, Miami couldn’t overcome the Suns’ late surge.
The Heat’s Road only gets tougher from here as they continue a challenging six-game trip, facing several playoff-caliber teams.
