Class of 2024 guard Rakease Passmore is one of the most athletic players in his recruiting class, and the Miami Hurricanes have taken notice.
UM offered Passmore on March 7, 2023, joining an offer sheet that also includes Duke, Memphis, Indiana, Kansas, Auburn, Houston and other high-major programs.
“I’ve been talking to Miami for a while, and they fell off a little bit with me and came back. They came to an open run and just started seeing me and start building that relationship up again. That’s when they finally had offered,” Passmore told LifeWallet Sports.
Growing up near Jacksonville, Florida, Passmore grew up watching the ‘Canes.
“I definitely feel good, growing up in Florida, Miami was always a school I watched. It was definitely a school I definitely wanted,” Passmore said.
Passmore also noted that, from Miami’s staff, he is closest to head coach Jim Larrañaga and “some of the assistants.”
Now playing high school basketball at Combine (N.C.) Academy, Passmore has made unofficial visits to in-state programs like Duke, Wake Forest and North Carolina State. He also made unofficial visits to Charleston and Tennessee, in addition to a lone official visit to Indiana.
The 6-foot-5 combo guard helped lead the Goats to a 37-5 record this past season. He’s set to play on this Adidas Circuit with Garner Road, an AAU program based out of Raleigh, N.C.
Passmore describes himself as “very energetic on defense” and says he can “score the ball in different ways.” He compares his style of play to that of Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.
Passmore is ranked as the No. 50 player in his class by the On3 Sports Industry Ranking.
