Miami landed one of the top guards in the class of 2024 on Tuesday afternoon, as Austin Swartz announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. Swartz’s other finalists included Clemson, Georgia, Indiana, Notre Dame, Connecticut, Virginia Tech and Florida State.

Swartz is UM’s first pledge of the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-5 Cannon School (N.C.) product rose up the recruiting ranks this summer after an exceptional season on the Nike EYBL circuit with Boo Williams. Swartz averaged 21 points per game, good for third among all players. He was also named to the EYBL Regular Season Second Team.

Listed by the 247Sports Composite as the 44th-best player and eighth-best shooting guard in the country, Swartz is Miami’s highest-ranked commit since Earl Timberlake in 2020.

Swartz was first offered by Miami earlier this year on May 17, and he made an official visit to the school on Aug. 25.

Swartz’s commitment could create momentum for the ‘Canes, which have a pivotal next couple of months of recruiting ahead of them. Five players have official visits scheduled to Miami in September and October, including guard Jalil Bethea, who is rated by three of the four major recruiting websites as a five-star prospect.

Scouting Report:

Swartz is a three-level scorer who is one of the top bucket-getters in his class. He has a quick release that is smooth both off the catch and off the dribble. Swartz is an excellent space-creator who can generate quality basket opportunities with his handle. He’s an impressive shot-maker, although his decision-making in some of these contested instances could use some improvement. Defensively, Swartz has the tools and off-ball instincts to be impactful, but he’s not polished yet on that end of the floor. Swartz projects as a first-year contributor and a multi-year starter at the collegiate level.
