The Miami Hurricanes’ recruiting momentum continues to surge as they secure yet another commitment this week. Blountstown High School’s four-star defensive lineman, Artavius Jones, has chosen Miami over Florida State, Tennessee, and UCF. Jones’ commitment comes hot on the heels of Thursday’s commitment of five-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader, making it a week of tremendous success for Mario Cristobal and Miami on the recruiting trail.

The addition of Jones to Miami’s 2024 recruiting class is a testament to the impactful recruiting efforts of coach Mario Cristobal and his staff. Coach Joe Salave’a played a pivotal role in building a strong relationship with Jones, which ultimately led to his commitment. Multiple visits to Miami allowed Jones to experience the program firsthand, strengthening his connection and solidifying his decision to join the Hurricanes on Friday afternoon. Adding to the allure, Jones also has family residing in South Florida, further enhancing his comfort and connection to the area.

Jones becomes the 18th commitment in Miami’s 2024 recruiting class, highlighting the program’s ability to attract top talent. As a defensive lineman, Jones joins the ranks of four-star commit Marquise Lightfoot and Miami-Dade 4M-3M Defensive Player of the Year, three-star Daylen Russell. The Hurricanes’ emphasis on fortifying their defensive line continues to pay dividends as they secure another promising talent.

Not only is Jones a standout on the football field, but he also excels in other sports. As a multi-sport athlete, he competes in track and field, showcasing his athleticism and versatility. In the discus event at the Florida 1A meet, Jones displayed his skill by securing fourth place with an impressive throw of 147’0.25″. Additionally, he has qualified for regionals in the shot put and javelin. On the basketball court, Jones’s contributions were equally noteworthy, averaging 10.6 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game in 28 appearances during his junior year.

As a junior, he demonstrated his versatility by playing on both the defensive and offensive lines. In addition, he showcased his skills as a tight end and fullback for Blountstown High School. With his contributions, the team achieved an impressive 9-5 record and made it to the semifinals of Florida’s 1R playoffs. Jones’s defensive performance was exceptional, accumulating 58 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup. Offensively, he displayed his versatility by catching eight passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. Furthermore, he even found the end zone with a rushing touchdown as a fullback.

With Jones’s commitment, Miami’s recruiting class receives yet another boost. The Hurricanes climb from 16th to 14th in the composite team rankings, according to the recruiting industry services (247Sports, ESPN, On3, and Rivals).

As the Miami Hurricanes and Coach Cristobal maintain their recruiting momentum, the addition of Artavius Jones serves as another testament to the program’s bright future. With an emphasis on building a formidable defensive line and securing versatile athletes, Miami’s 2024 recruiting class is starting to take shape with top-tier additions in July.
