Cue the early fireworks—Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes Football program are starting their Fourth of July celebrations early with a bang! Marquise Lightfoot, a highly sought-after four-star defensive end from Kenwood Academy (IL), has committed to Miami, turning down his three other finalists: Ohio State, USC, and Illinois. Lightfoot, who holds over 40 scholarship offers, made his decision on Monday evening.

Leading the recruitment charge for Miami was none other than Jason Taylor, the team’s new defensive line coach and an NFL Hall of Famer. Taylor played a pivotal role in convincing Lightfoot to join the ranks of Miami’s 2024 recruiting class.

During his junior season in 2022, Lightfoot accumulated remarkable statistics on the football field: 122 tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss, 18 hurries, nine sacks, four pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

With Lightfoot’s commitment, Miami secures their highest-ranked commitment for the 2024 recruiting class. He holds the 67th overall composite ranking in the country, surpassing the standing of four-star running back Kevin Riley, who currently sits at the 82nd overall spot.

Lightfoot’s commitment adds more star power to Miami’s 2024 class, which already boasts three other highly regarded four-star recruits: wide receiver Chance Robinson, tight end Elija Lofton, and the aforementioned Kevin Riley.

As a result of the 6-foot-5, 220-pound pass rusher’s commitment, Miami’s 2024 recruiting class climbs from the 31st to the 17th rank in the country according to the 2024 composite team rankings.
