Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are not done bolstering their roster ahead of the start of spring practice on March 4th. This time around, they snagged one from an in-state rival in Florida State with transfer running back Rodney Hill, a Georgia native. Hill was initially committed to the Florida A&M Rattlers before choosing Miami as his transfer destination this afternoon.
Hill will arrive at Miami with three years of eligibility remaining. For fans concerned about scholarship numbers this offseason, Hill will be counted as a preferred walk-on with the Hurricanes this upcoming season. Miami gets the chance to continue building not only depth at the running back position but also more competition among the scout team during the season. Hill provides the ability to contribute on kick and punt return units as a return man as well.
In 15 games with the Seminoles, Hill rushed for 334 yards on 77 carries and scored 2 rushing touchdowns. He also contributed 5 receptions for 83 receiving yards. Hill was ranked as a four-star recruit in the class of 2022, according to ESPN.
Miami believes they have found a very favorable situation by adding Hill to the roster. He brings the ability to contribute at running back, highlighted as a high IQ player and a solid pass protector at the running back position. Additionally, his special teams return value, ability as a receiver out of the backfield, and background as a wide receiver and defensive back from his high school football days in Statesboro, Georgia, at Bulloch Academy add to his versatility.
Stay tuned as the Hurricanes are not done in the transfer portal. They continue to pursue prospects in the transfer portal and junior college ranks at both offensive line and wide receiver, hoping to add one player at each of those positions before the add/drop date of January 24th for classes at the University of Miami this spring semester.
