Miami Central (Fla.) High School wide receiver Lawayne McCoy has been committed to Florida State since April 13, but that hasn’t stopped other schools from pursuing him, and the class of 2024 prospect is still open to their respective recruitments.

“I’m still open to all schools that are recruiting me,” McCoy told LifeWallet Sports.

The 6-foot-1 wideout mentioned Miami, Louisville, Central Florida, West Virginia, Penn State and Oregon, along with a “couple other schools” that are still pushing for his pledge.

McCoy noted that Florida State’s hospitality, along with the Seminoles’ early recruitment of him were two factors that played into his commitment.

“I’ve visited campus several times. Every time I came, it was good hospitality,” McCoy said. “Florida State was one of the schools that offered me since I was a sophomore, one of my first offers, and I felt like it was the right decision for me at the time.”

McCoy also spoke highly of Florida State head coach Mike Norvell.

“Coach Mike Norvell, that’s my guy. That’s been my guy ever since I stepped on campus at Florida State,” McCoy said. “Ever since he gave me my offer, that’s just been my guy. He’s a straight-up guy. He never shows no flaws. He’s a guy full of love.”

As for his relationship with Miami’s coaches, McCoy labeled head coach Mario Cristobal as a “stand-up” and “honest” guy. He believes that Cristobal is “gonna change the program around this year.”

McCoy was also one of the recruits that wide receivers coach Kevin Beard initially reached out to when he was hired by Miami on March 1.

“Since the first day they hired coach KB, he hollered at me,” McCoy said. “That kind of stood out to me that I was one of the guys he wanted to go at, and my relationship with coach KB is kind of cool. He’s a cool guy. He showed me a couple tips. He’s a great coach.”

The rising senior is set to visit Central Florida on June 9, as well as Oregon at the end of June. He also plans to visit Louisville but is unsure of the date. McCoy is unsure about a future visit to Miami but says that he’ll “probably bring it up.”

McCoy has already made multiple trips to UM in the past.
