While Miami has only recently gotten involved in 2024 defensive back Ka’Davion Dotson’s recruitment, head coach Mario Cristobal has had a relationship with the Duncanville (Texas) product for quite some time now.

“I’ve been having a relationship with Coach Cristobal … since he was at Oregon,” Dotson said to LifeWallet Sports.

Cristobal offered the highly touted defender during Dotson’s visit to UM on Jan. 22, 2023.

Dotson also had the chance to talk to some of Miami’s defensive coaches during his visit.

“It was great getting up there and talking with Coach Cristobal. I had a great conversation with him,” Dotson said. “Talking with the defensive coaches, they just telling me the play style, how they trying to get back to the old Miami.”

UM has positioned itself as a contender in Dotson’s recruitment, as he wants to check out the school again in the spring. He also plans on visiting an in-state rival of the ‘Canes, as well.

“I’m definitely getting back up to Miami, probably Florida State,” Dotson said about which schools he plans on visiting this spring. “I’m looking forward to getting … back to LSU, Texas.”

The versatile 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back projects as either a cornerback or a safety at the collegiate level. He was a key contributor to the Panthers, who allowed only 10.4 points per game in their undefeated season that ended in a Texas state championship.

When making his college decision, Dotson said that he values his future program’s ability to develop him into an NFL-caliber player.
