The Miami Hurricanes landed a massive commitment on Saturday when top-100 CB Jaboree Antoine chose the Hurricanes over the hometown team, LSU. The 6’1″, 170lb standout is ranked #61 in the 247 Sports Composite, the #6 CB in the nation, and the #2 player overall in the state of Louisiana. Miami showed love from the get-go; they were Antoine’s first offer and have recruited him like a five-star caliber player throughout his recruitment.
What are the Canes getting in Antoine? The Canes are getting a prospect that is a lockdown corner. In March at Battle New Orleans, this was the skinny on Jaboree Antoine’s performance:
“Lockdown. Shutdown. Call it whatever you want. That was the LSU commit all weekend long. Teams were clearly afraid to throw his way, and after watching him for two days, it makes sense. He’s different. He has all of the tools. Antoine, despite rarely getting challenged, was locked in at all times, didn’t take any plays off, and showed why the 2025 recruit has elite abilities.”
One of the smartest posters on CanesInsight, @Memnon, a former defensive back himself, had nothing but praise for Jaboree Antoine’s talent:
“He has an ideal prototype size with a great long-armed frame, high-level ball-hawk ability, quick feet, and very good advanced technique. Displays very good physicality out of his stance with good press-man jam technique to reroute the WR, opens his hips well, and tracks. Transitions in coverage very well. Can sometimes be a little too grabby but recognizes when to release and make a play on the ball.
There’s been questions about his speed, and while he’s not a pure 100m burner, he did put up a nice 43.6 in the 300m hurdles in April of this year, which shows good long speed and athletic power. For the 300m hurdles, pretty much any time under 45 is good for a high school football player. He’s a natural quick-twitch athlete with great instincts.
Overall, this kid is very mechanically and technically sound for his age. He’s a natural cover corner with lockdown potential. His physical traits are there. He may not have elite speed per se, but he has enough to not get beat on a regular basis. His physical upside combined with his technical savvy makes him a potential future NFL draft pick.”
The past 15 years have seen Miami struggle to bring in blue-chip caliber cornerbacks. Jaboree Antoine is not just a run-of-the-mill four-star; he is elite. Chevis Jackson, who is a disciple of Corey Raymond, is an excellent teacher and will maximize Antoine’s skillset. For the first time since 2011, when the Miami Hurricanes saw Brandon Harris drafted in the second round, the Canes have landed an elite talent with All-American and All-Conference potential, who is good enough to be drafted in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.
