2024 South Broward (Fla.) High School running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey established himself as one of the most explosive players in South Florida last season, and schools like Miami took notice.
The Hurricanes were the seventh school to offer Wheatley-Humphrey after his sensational junior campaign, joining Maryland, Louisville and other Power Five programs.
The 6-foot-0, 175-pound back made his first unofficial visit to UM on Jan. 29. He made two more trips to Coral Gables before becoming Miami’s fifth commit of its 2024 recruiting class on April 17.
Here is LifeWallet Sports’ evaluation of the electric Wheatley-Humphrey.
Scouting Report: Wheatley-Humphrey was the heart and soul of South Broward’s offense last season. He lined up as a running back and even as a wildcat quarterback and ran for 1,166 yards and eight touchdowns on just 70 carries.
Wheatley-Humphrey is at his best in the open field, as his acceleration is his biggest strength. South Broward often used him on sweeps and other off-tackle runs, utilizing his ability to race past slower defenders in space. While his game isn’t reliant on his physicality, Wheatley-Humphrey has shown a willingness to run inside the tackles. He didn’t receive a heavy volume of passes last season, but he looked comfortable as a receiver out of the backfield and proved to be dangerous in the screen game. He projects as a change-of-pace back rather than a featured back at the next level. Wheatley-Humphrey also has special teams upside as a punt or kick returner because of how quickly he can get to his top speed.
