In a game that was called in the third quarter due to weather, Chaminade Madonna defeated the Miami Northwestern Bulls 35-6 behind a trio of touchdowns from their five-star prospects. The game was originally scheduled to be played Thursday night but was moved to the weekend due to severe thunderstorms. The Chaminade Lions were looking to make a statement after ending the season with a tough loss in the Geico State Champions Bowl against Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

Chaminade sent a message to the top high schools across the country with a blowout victory over the Bulls in just over a half of football before bad weather rolled in again. Four-star running back and North Carolina Commit, Davion Gause, got the scoring going early on with a rushing touchdown to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. After a physical score from Gause, the Chaminade defense and passing attack took over.

Five-star Miami commit Joshisa ‘Jojo’ Trader put the lions up 14-0 with a beautiful touchdown grab where he fought back through the defensive back and made a contested catch. Trader had another catch on the sideline where he turned up field and showed great strength fighting through tackles for extra yards. Four Star 2025 WR Kyle Washington continued the onslaught with a six-yard touchdown reception from fellow four-star QB Cedrick Bailey.

Top ranked 2024 WR Jeremiah Smith continued to show why he’s widely regarded as one of best receiver prospects in nearly a decade. Smith used his speed and impressive route running to get behind the defense for a 70-yard receiving touchdown to put the Lions up 28-0. Chaminade’s third five-star prospect joined the fun as top ranked safety Zaquan Patterson returned an interception for a score and extended the lead to 35-0 right before the end of the half.

Bad weather ended the matchup shortly after the start of the third quarter, but the Lions had accomplished their goal of showing that they’re poised to make a run at another state championship and a potential national championship. The Lions will look to continue their strong start as nationally ranked St. Frances Academy comes to town on August 26th.
