The Miami Hurricanes got a much-needed boost to their 2024 recruiting class with the commitments of Joshisa Trader and Artavius Jones. After a couple misses on the recruiting trail, Miami’s class had slipped outside the top 20 and some fans were feeling concerned. The Canes are back on track and have regained momentum with the addition of these two blue chip prospects on back-to-back nights.
Five-star WR Joshisa Trader got the party started on Thursday night when he surprised many by announcing his commitment to Miami. Trader’s recruitment seemed like it was going to continue well into the season, but the Canes’ staff got him to shut it down and join Miami’s 2024 class. FSU had felt good about where they stood with Trader and had him on campus multiple times recently, so it was a shock to many around the Seminoles program when he made his commitment Thursday night.
Trader is one of the top athletes in the country and could be a five-star prospect on either side of the ball. The 25th ranked player in the nation out of Chaminade Madonna High School has some of the best hands in the country and you’ll struggle to find anyone in the nation that can make contested catches like he can. Trader is the full package at WR and has the route running, hands, and body control to be an elite talent at the next level.
Miami didn’t wait long to continue adding on to their 2024 recruiting class. Just 24 hours after the commitment of Joshisa Trader bumped the Canes class up to 16th in the nation, Miami landed a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Artavius Jones. The 6’4-285lb prospect out of Blountstown is one of the top 150 players in the country and a top 20 defensive lineman. UCF, FSU and Tennessee were in the running for Jones, but Miami was able to seal the deal after getting him on campus late in June.
Landing Trader and Jones has bumped the Canes’ class back up into the top 15 nationally and into a tight race with FSU and Clemson for the top class in the ACC. The Canes’ ‘blue chip ratio’ is quickly rising and could get a bump once again with another top-150 recruit possibly joining the class this weekend. Miami is hoping to capitalize on this momentum and keep the ball rolling into the recruiting BBQ that the Hurricanes are hosting the final weekend in July.
